How The Cycle to Work Scheme Works banner

What is the government Cycle to Work Scheme?

The Cycle to Work Scheme is a government backed initiative, operating all over the UK. It offers employees a cost-effective way of acquiring cycling gear through the business they work for, without upfront costs. Instead, payment for the goods is deducted from their monthly salary (also known as salary sacrifice). This means that employees will not be paying tax or National Insurance on their items, saving up to 49%.

Plus, business owners can make significant savings on their NI contributions when they sign up with their organisation, as employees are effectively reducing their gross pay when they use the scheme.

Registering for the scheme

Employers can run the Cycle to Work Scheme themselves, without signing up with an affiliated provider. However, this can be time-consuming, particularly if you have several employee scheme contracts to manage and oversee, plus the admin involved in handling a number of salary sacrifice agreements.

By signing up with an independent government Cycle to Work Scheme provider, like Cycle Solutions, you will be working with cycling experts, who take care of everything. From marketing the scheme to employees, to taking them through how to acquire their equipment, offering a personalised shop specific to your company, and all the admin, everything is in hand.
