Mountain Bike Shuttle Service for Neath Port Talbot
Posted - August 12, 2013
For the next month residents and visitors of Neath Port Talbot will benefit from a mountain bike shuttle service to Afan Forest Park, to experience some of the best mountain biking South Wales has to offer.
Cognation mtb trails South Wales are working in partnership with Dansa Community Transport to run the first shuttle service of this kind in Neath Port Talbot. The shuttle service will provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to take advantage of hassle free mountain biking across the three visitor centres in Afan Forest Park. DANSA will be charging a one-off membership fee of £3.00 to use the service.
Cognation is a partnership project between Neath Port Talbot CBC, Caerphilly CBC, Merthyr Tydfil CBC and Natural Resources Wales and is part-funded by the EU's Convergence European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government with match funding coming from Welsh Government Heads of the Valley and Western Valleys Regeneration initiative, BikePark Wales and partner organisations.
This demand-led shuttle service has been made possible through additional funding secured from Visit Wales and partnership working between DANSA Community Transport and also Skyline Cycles.
The bus and bike trailer will pick up from set points across the Dulais and Neath Valley and Neath town centre on Saturdays and the Swansea and Amman Valleys and Port Talbot town centre on Sundays. Drop-off points include the new Afan Bike Park near Bryn Bettws Lodge, Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre, where families and newcomers to mountain biking can take in the Rookie trail and skills area, and also Glyncorrwg Ponds and Mountain Bike Centre to take advantage of old favourites Skyline and Whites Level.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Councillor Ali Thomas, said: "I'm delighted that the Cognation Team have been able to develop this shuttle service and also draw on the resources and experience of DANSA. I see this as not only a benefit to local residents, who have not yet had the opportunity to experience some of the new developments in Afan Forest Park, but also a way to promote healthier communities and sustainable transport across Neath Port Talbot. This is a five star service - use it or lose it"
Business Development Officer for DANSA Community Transport, Alison Owen, also commented "This is a great opportunity for residents of Neath Port Talbot who don't have access to transport or the suitable equipment to discover world-class mountain biking on offer in the Afan Valley during the school holidays."
